Words of Wisdom from Tan Sri Prof Dr. Syed Hamid Albar: FAREWELL 2021

As you get older time seems to slip by like water under a bridge. It lives you without realizing it’s gone in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and suddenly the dawn of a new year has arrived.

The whole year has been quite eventful with anecdotes & experiences in varied & diverse areas.

We have the covid pandemics still looming over us. It has created havoc nationally, regionally & internationally.

All of us are groping for answers to the challenges & problems of humankind economically, politically, physically, mentally & spiritually.

Before we are able to solve one problem another has arisen. God has given us mother earth in its exactitude & proper balance.

As the saying goes life is too short for conflicts, hate, destruction, and aggression that would have horrendous effects. I have seen wars & conflicts which demonstrate the worst streaks of human beings, committing wanton killings, genocide, crimes against humanity and violent human rights abuses. These are acts of human against fellow human.

We ‘re required to do justice for this balance to be attainable by putting everything in its rightful places.

The bestowed right requires the human race to have responsibility and impose obligations on them not to commit injury, damage or destruction to nature & environment.

We’re supposed to embrace each other with love, tolerance, understanding and goodwill for a better and peaceful world.

We also have done harm to our own environment, animals and our biodiversity.

We have this year seen  too much of deaths, sadness at personal and collective levels.

We are witnessing stressful political upheaval in Malaysia.

We are experiencing first hand the very effects of climate change as a result of human callousness, corruption & abuses of power.

Our experiment on the political system mixing between absolute monarchy and parliamentary democracy has failed miserably.

The management of the floods or the lack of it has brought untold anger & anguish against the leaders, the government and politicians.

As I reflect & look on thing,  I imagine there is going to be tough times for political parties and politicians in the forthcoming GE15.

For me 2021 will live a lot of forgettable and unforgettable memories.

I wish everyone a happy 2022 and hopefully we have taken heed from the lessons of 2021.
